A SAILOR serving on board the Plymouth-based frigate HMS Monmouth in the Gulf is hoping to raise money for the Torpoint branch of the Royal British Legion by 'yomping' a gruelling 100 kilometres round the deck of his ship.
Brian Peacock, a 30-year-old marine engineer, is looking to complete 437 laps of the frigate's upper deck in under 24 hours.
As if that were not enough, Brian will be carrying 30 kilograms – a similar weight to 30 bags of sugar – as he attempts the challenge of nearly 63 miles.
Brian said: 'I grew up really not knowing or caring much about the work of charities such as the Legion, but when I went through my training at HMS Raleigh in Torpoint one of the Petty Officers, Steve Lewis, really opened my eyes to the work they do.
'I got to see how they support both current and ex-serving personnel and I was really deeply touched. Now I have the chance to do something to help the Torpoint Legion,' he added.
