SAILORS from Hawke Division at HMS Raleigh have been digging out at Carbeile Junior School in Torpoint to extend a bark wood path through the school grounds. A team of 12 trainees together with two instructors have spent three days at the school clearing the ground of roots and weeds and extending the 50 metre path, which was originally laid by naval recruits two years ago. The extension will take the path through a shaded wooded area at the school and will be used by the children at lunch times and break time. Instructor Petty Officer Sharon Trinder said: 'The trainees have really enjoyed their time at the school and it is a great way for them to help out in the local community. 'They've started each day by taking part in the children's "wake-up shake-up" exercise routine which has set them up nicely for the work in hand.' Mike Richards, headteacher of Carbeile Junior School, said: 'We've always had close contacts with HMS Raleigh. Many of our parents work there and some of our pupils have gone there for training. 'This is one of a number of projects the sailors have supported us with and we are very grateful for their help this time which has enabled us to complete this project sooner than we had hoped.'
