A farm shop near Looe has been threatened with legal action over its advertising signs – which have been at the roadside for around 30 years! Jane Grant of the Tredinnick Farm Shop at Widegates says the blackboard-style signs are essential to the business which would otherwise be invisible to passers-by. After buying the business two-and-half years ago she did put up new signs but Caradon District Council told her to take them down, so she reverted to the original ones erected by the previous owners some 30 years ago. But now she has received a warning of enforcement action by the council to secure the removal of those as well. 'I'm going to be talking to a sign writing company to see if we can come up with something which will keep the council happy but I just can't understand why they are threatening me with the law when the signs have been there for so long without causing anyone a problem,' she said. The council takes the view that unauthorised signs are likely to distract motorists and could pose a threat to road safety. Jane said she had applied to the county council for brown tourist signs for the business a year ago but had heard nothing more.
