Torpoint running club Carbeile Cruisers organised their first 12k race at the weekend with more than 70 competitors entering.
The club is running to raise money to help Sam Hough to get a treadmill. Sam, who was struck down by a rare illness which affected his mobility, started the race along with David Francis of VT Flagship.
First over the line – in a time of 50 minutes, 11 seconds – was 38-year-old Ian Smart, from Millbrook.
He said: 'It was a tough, undulating run and quite hot. It was a good run though.'
Philip Nankivell, of Plymouth Coasters, was second with a time of 50 minutes, 47 seconds, and Torpoint man Tom Crane was third with a time of 52 minutes, 29 seconds.
The first woman to cross the line for Carbeile Cruisers was Elise Jenness in a time of 1 hour, 2 minutes and 59 seconds.
Prior to the main race, there was a fun run for children and parents, with nearly 40 entrants doing three laps of the school field.
Shane Hendra, 15, was a clear winner, with brothers Edward and Oliver Smart, coming second and third.
The youngest entrant was Imogen, aged 23 months.
Deputy mayor Mike Pearn and Sam Hough started the fun run, and all the entrants received a medal at the end.
After the main race, which ended at the Carbeile Inn, a presentation took place followed by a barbecue and raffle. Organiser Louise Wilkinson said: 'A fantastic day was had by everyone and the weather was in our favour. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped to make the race a success.
'All the medals and prizes were donated by VT Flagship – our sponsors for the event – and without them the final total we have raised today would have been considerably less.'
