Volunteers from Tesco’s Callington branch entered Race For Life on Plymouth Hoe to raise money for Cancer Research. The 32 female runners were driven to the 5km charity fun run around the waterfront in a coach on loan from local bus company Jackett’s Coaches and were ’cried’ on their way by the Callington town crier.
Race For Life is the UK’s largest women-only fundraising event, where pink-clad women get together to jog, walk or run 5km to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Organiser Saffron Ray said: ’Cancer Research means a lot to so many in the Callington community, and we are very grateful to the many volunteers who braved the wind and rainy for this excellent cause.
’We would also particularly like to say thanks to Mr Jackett for supplying the coach once again and for personally driving us there and back - they support us every year and it means a lot. We are also grateful to the town crier Mr Stentiford for giving us such a noisy send-off – oyez we are!’
