Are you one of the thousands of runners who have gained a guaranteed place in this year's London Marathon but haven't chosen a charity to run for? Then please run for Meningitis Research Foundation.

In the 21st Century, we do not expect to see healthy people die in hours from meningitis and septicemia - but they do. These diseases can affect anyone but babies, children and young adults are particularly at risk.

Despite improvements in antibiotics and treatments, meningitis and septicemia continue to be fatal in 10 percent of cases - and the incidence of these diseases has been on the rise. Last year, cases in England and Wales reached a 50-year high.

Meningitis Research Foundation is a national charity that is fighting back against the rising tide of meningitis and septicemia by funding vital scientific research into their prevention, detection and treatment, raising awareness, and providing information and support through its 24-Hour Helpline - Freefone 080 8800 3344.

If you are interested in running for the foundation and share our vision of a world free from meningitis and septicemia, please call Lynne on 01454 281811 or write to: Meningitis Research Foundation, Midland Way, Thornbury, Bristol, BS35 2BS.

Choosing to run for Meningitis Research Foundation in this year's London Marathon can save lives.
