Three players from Callington RFC have been selected to play for a Cornwall in a combination fixture against Bodmin's First 15 on Sunday 19th April.
The players chosen all play in the forwards, Nick Woodley and Clive Stokes will be playing their usual positions of props and are said to be delighted with the prospect of representing the County. Callington Skipper Kim Campbell, who has also received a position in the squad comments that it reflects on the increased standard of rugby that Callington have been playing to this season.
Paul Cioffi, Club Spokesman states 'This is clearly an indication of things to come from the developing Cornwall II club. Although the club has only been established in the league for three years, each year our prospects seem brighter and brighter - we finished fifth in our first year, fourth in our second and a respectable third in this years season. The club is both steadily growing and improving, so next year we hope to gain a slot in the top two. Our profile has certainly been raised recently, especially after capturing two big names to the coaching department. Former Cornwall Skipper Dean Shipton and Tavistock ace Kevin Oliver have worked alongside team coach Clive Stokes and have all done an excellent job in developing the team'.
The Club will be present at Callington's Millennium Fair on Sunday 7th April, held at Callington Community College. The club will be laying on coaching sessions for all age groups of 11 years and up commencing at 11.00 am on the sports field. Everybody is welcome to attend regardless of experience. This will be followed by a friendly fixture at 3.00 pm between the Callington First 15 and a combination side from Berryhill who are currently touring the area.
