Saltash break new ground tomorrow with a tough looking Tetley Bitter Vase third round trip to Somerset Division One club Nailsea and Backwell. Ashes spokesman Doug Lawrence say, "We know very little about them save that they are third in their league with four wins from six matches after the end of last Saturdays play".

Saltash have one injury doubt with number two target jumper Nick Venn, who turned an ankle in last weeks bruising, midweek game against Plymouth Albion Extras facing a late fitness check.

With a first team squad of 20 all available, they will select from James Rich, James Woodward, Nick Rich, Ron Eatwell, Dave Honey, Phil Masters, Nick Venn, Jamie Westaway, Steve Hall, Lazlo Noszkay, Graham West, Peter Congo, Rob Bewes, Neil Westerman, Angus Fewen, Julian Oakes, Steve Ryan, Anthony Ruby, Nigel Owen and Ian Davis.

Saltash Reserves face Liskeard/Looe II's in the first round of the Plymouth Combination Roy Ellis Trophy at Lux Park.

St Agnes 5 pts

Saltash 26(after 50 minutes)

"Upset and disappointed" best describes the comment from the Saltash camp after the appointed referee failed to show for last Saturday's Cornwall Division One matches at Enys Parc.

But with both sides already on the field, the Aggies' Australian blind side flanker Mike Greenslade - out with an injury, and only present in the bar to watch his countrymen in the Rugby World Cup Final on the clubhouse television agreed to take the whistle for 25 minutes each way. It allowed both sides a meaningful workout before facing stiff away opposition in the Tetley Bitter Vase tomorrow.

As it was Saltash it had more or less all their own way with Neil Westerman adding three conversions to tries from Peter congo (two), Ian Davis and Anthony Ruby.

Simon Parrett got a late consolation try for St Agnes. While one local spectator was overheard contemplating what the final Saltash total might have been - had there been a proper referee and had the game gone the distance.

Liskeard-Looe U13's 8

Penzance U-13's 0

Liskeard-Looe started very much the underdogs, Penzance were undefeated for four years and have provided tough opposition in previous encounters. However the home side were at full strength and soon showed that they were going to give the visitors a run for their money, and wanted this 'scalp'.

Penzance had a large pack and made Liskeard work hard in the scrums. Through this advantage Penzance had the greater percentage of possession. Their number eight was the strongest attacking player, however a strong defence by Liskeard was unpenetrable.

Liskeard won their fair share of ball in the loose and from lineouts and in the first half managed break through for the only try of the match using a combination move from Bas Hocking and Kirran Bruce.

Although defending well in general, Liskeard had to rely on a try saving tackle by Kevin Ridgers on two seperate occasions.

In the second half the large Penzance pack started to tire and Liskeard started to exert more territorial pressure through an increased amount of possession from their forwards. This pressure eventually led to a penalty under the posts for the home side, this was taken as a drop goal 'a la De Beer' by Kirran Bruce. Flanker Chris Lewis tackled tirelessly throughout and Sam Morgan made positive return at scrum half. The game was superbly refereed by Alex Mackay.

Callington expect a tough game

Callington will be hoping that the two week break they have had from playing any competitive matches will be a positive factor in influencing the result in their league game against the Camborne School of Mines tomorrow (Saturday, 3 ko). Callington will be aiming to continue their good run of form in the Cornwall Two league after beating Roseland 30-03 in their last game.

Although Callington will probably go into this game as the favourites after beating the S.O.M's both times in last year's league, they will not be expecting an easy game and will have to battle hard this time round.

A win for Callington would earn them a respectable position near the top of the league and stand them in good stead for their promotion prospects.

Team Selection List: Tremain Harbut, Paul Cioffi, Chris Rowse, Ali Skews, Rob congdon, Jerry Jones, Mark Jacobs, Clive Stokes, Alan Jasper, Nick Woodley, Adam Ingram, Sean Francey, James Shepherd, John Pritchard, Kim Campbell (Captain). Substitutes are Cliff Turner and John Lewis.
