While most were having a rest from league rugby on international day Saltash started on their Cornwall Division One fixture backlog. Too strong in all departments, they kept league new boys St Agnes on the back foot from the start and ran up a 39-nil half time lead with tries from Peter Congo, Ian Davis, Anthony Ruby (two), Simon Watson, Phil Masters and Rob Bewes plus two conversions from Nigel Owen.

To give some idea of how one sided it all was, St Agnes didn't get into the Ashes twenty-two until midway through the second half. But they never really threatened as such while they were there. Saltash had no trouble keeping their line intact and added further tries as Ruby and Davis completed their hat tricks. Winger Brian Bell weighed in with a debut first team try and Bewes added two conversions.
