HMS Cornwall l7pts

HMS Gloucestershire 11

All the action came in a busy last 15 minutes at Moorlands Lane, Saltash, as HMS Cornwall carried off the Navy Cup for the third time in four seasons. Outside half Bill Beaumont for Gloucester and Cornwall wing Tommy Cooper touched down first half tries before Beaumont sneaked Gloucester ahead with a penalty on the stroke of half time.

Taff Stokes got the downward pressure to nose Cornwall in front on the hour. Beaumont was wide with a thirty metre penalty attempt but was on target with an almost immediate second chance and Gloucester looked like retaining the silverware for the second successive season.

Cornwall piled on the forward pressure in the dying minutes and were rewarded with live wire stand off Mo Morris diving over outside the woodwork for Jan Chenneour to add the conversion.
