While the Ashes' senior side were playing the first of three games against the same side in the space of 15 days. The second string were again meeting cross Tamar rivals OPMs who they had dumped out of the semi-final of the Ellis Trophy at Moorlands Lane two Saturdays previous.

On their earlier visit the Old Boys had, in all seriousness, blamed their defeat on being without a kicking tee. While this time they gave the novel excuse for missing a string of kicking chances as having brought the wrong one.

Other than that Saltash were worth their win with tries from Graham West and Mark Haimes with Grant Brettell converting. Tim Smaile got a try in each half for the visitors.
