A SCHOOLGIRL has donated her long hair to make a wig for a child with cancer.
Ruby Khan, nine, was already planning to get her waist-length locks cut into a bob, when she discovered the Little Princess Trust.
'We thought it would be a waste to just throw away such lovely hair and looked online into selling the hair to a wig maker. Then we came across the Little Princess website,' said mum Suzie.
'There was a video of a girl who had lost her hair due to cancer treatment and then been given a wig – we were both really touched – and Ruby instantly decided she wanted her hair to go to help other children in the same position. Her heart was set on it.'
Ruby, who had been growing her hair long for four years, had been having regular trims at Cut Above in Saltash – and hairdresser Michelle was happy to give her time for the charitable gesture.
'It was emotional – the staff and customers were surprised and moved by what she was doing,' said Suzie.
'Other customers turned their chairs to watch and gave cash to Ruby to pass on to the Little Princess Trust. Some of the staff gave their tips. Ruby was overwhelmed by the actual event, grinning from ear to ear and crying a little too.'
Proudly sporting her new hairstyle, Ruby, from Saltash, has also been fundraising for the charity, and has gathered around £170 so far.
She said: 'I would like to say thank you to Michelle for donating her time and giving me such a great haircut, and to everyone who has given money to help support the charity.'
