THE organisation that looks after common land on the moors has posted a despairing message on social media after a weekend of inconsiderate behaviour by visitors.
In a tweet, the Bodmin Moor Commons Council said: ’What has gone wrong? BBQs, campfires, so much rubbish, gasping fish saved today following a river being dammed, numerous reports of dogs chasing sheep, camper vans, campers, and to top it all human excrement and soiled toilet roll.’
Meanwhile a resident of the Minions area is urging people to take their rubbish home with them after seeing sheep eating refuse out of bags left near the car park.
Diane Balman was on her way to look after her horses when she saw the mess, which included nitrous oxide canisters as well as an instant barbecue, food wrappers, drinks cans and carrier bags.
’People are behaving disgracefully and endangering the animals on the moor,’ she said.
’ I was driving past on my way to do my horses. I spotted sheep eating out of the bags and had to stop and move them on.
’Well done to Julie from the Commoners Council. They are trying to clear up any mess when notified about it and I know some locals have been clearing up as well.’
