THE chain of office for Looe Valley Rotary was passed over on Monday night, when Peter Bartram handed the position to Derek Cox for the forthcoming year. During the year the club reacted to the Indian Ocean tsunami disaster by giving more than £1,200 to ShelterBox for the provision of temporary accommodation in Asia. Much of the money was passed on by schools, churches, pubs and individuals in the area. Derek Cox said: 'Added on to a substantial contribution from our own charity fund, and a generous donation from the proceeds of the concert at Looe school, this became an incredible achievement. 'We know that all other rotary clubs in South East Cornwall had a similar response.' The club would like to thanks all people who contributed to ShelterBox and other rotary projects during the year and reassure people that 100 per cent of the money collected goes to the relevant charity. l Rotary Club's gifts to charities – see letters page
