The Rotary Club of Looe Valley has a new president following a meeting at the Hannafore Point Hotel last week. Retiring president Derek Cox handed over his chain of office to his successor, the Rev Brian Mcquillen, rector of St Martin with St Nicholas at Looe. The meeting also saw the handing over of cheques to the value of £3,800 to a variety of worthy causes. The recipients were Tom Henderson of Shelter Box (£1,800), Annetta Lock of the RNLI (£300), Tina Gefferies of Cornwall Hospice Care (£500). Stuart Shawcross of Derriford Hospital's Chestnut Appeal (£300), Dr John Critchley of Macmillan Cancer Nurses (£400). The club also donated £300 to Mercy Ships and £1,200 to the Rotary International Fund.
