A mass Hip Hop dance event which was to have been held on Plymouth Hoe tonight (Thursday) has been postponed by its organisers as a mark of respect following last Thursday’s tragic events in Keyham.

As part of the ongoing Mayflower 400 commemorations, Plymouth’s Street Factory was due to have performed Roots Up!, its dynamic, high-energy community Hip Hop mass dance and festival, tonight on Plymouth Hoe, as part of the British Firework Championships.

However, following the tragic events in Keyham last week, and due to the style and celebratory aspects of the festival - and of the dance itself – Street Factory founders Jo and Toby Gorniak have made the decision, in consultation with the performers and wider community, to postpone the physical performance of Roots Up!

Toby G and Jo said: “Given recent events, our hearts are collectively filled with sadness for the families and for our Plymouth community. We have therefore made the difficult decision to postpone Roots Up! again.

“This is because our overwhelming feeling is that it’s just not the appropriate time for this high-energy, positive dance festival.

“Roots Up! will be a fantastic event for the whole Plymouth community, and we look forward to working with our much-valued supporters at Mayflower 400, Plymouth City Council and Arts Council to deliver this when the time, and the surrounding context, is right for everyone.”
