A 44-year-old roofer has been in training to take part in two 24-hour runs in aid of prostate cancer. Jason Shipton, who has been running for nine years and already has 11 marathons and four ultra-marathons under his belt, will be taking part tomorrow in a new Plymouth race called Hope 24, which is an off-road relay around a five-mile course. It starts at 12 noon and finishes 24 hours later. Jason, from Callington, says he is using this race as a warm-up for the Adidas Thunder Run (TR24) in July, a 10k route against the clock, around Catton Park at Walton-on-Trent. For the last two years Jason has entered this gruelling race in a team of eight, which means you can drop in and out of the race as long as a member of the team is still on the track. However, wanting a challenge, he will be taking part this year as a solo runner. Jason has already run this year's London Marathon, and in between his two 24-hour runs he will be finding the time to compete in his fifth ultra marathon on June 7, which is the Dartmoor Discovery Run – a 32-miler. A former member of the Tamar Trotters, Jason now runs for Tavistock Athletic Club. His two sons are also running in his footsteps, with 15-year-old Charlie recently being part of the Cornwall County Team at an event in Birmingham.
