Ron Parsons celebrated his 100th Birthday on October 30 at Eventide Home in Liskeard.
Born in Twickenham he was the eldest of five children, having one sister and three brothers.
For his first job he followed in his father’s footsteps by joining the railway, but then at the beginning of WWII in 1939 joined the army as a sapper in the Royal Engineers, serving in Iraq and Iran (Persia) working on the ammunition trains as part of the 8th army, before then being posted to Italy. After leaving the army he returned to the railway, working at Battersea.
He married his wife Dorothy on 27 March 1954 in Stoke Newington, where the service was attended by three mayors and mayoresses who were his friends. Dorothy was a typist in Scotland Yard, dealing with all the murder cases. Although 10 years his junior she sadly passed away 10 years ago at age 80.
He has a daughter Jane Glover who lives in Liskeard and two grandchildren. He has been resident at Eventide for the last year.
