Alice Rogers, of Trerulefoot, has been selected for the Great Britain youth team to compete in an international modern pentathlon competition this weekend at Gloucester.

The 16-year-old will go up against other athletes from Europe in fencing, a 200-metre swim and a 3,000-metre run, including three stops for air pistol target-shooting. The normal additional show jumping phase on an unfamiliar allocated horse will not be included.

Alice has made steady progress in her athletics career since regularly winning the Cornish Times-sponsored East Cornwall Harriers Primary Schools' Cross-Country League as a pupil at Pensilva Primary School.

She moved to Callington Community College, before changing to Plymouth College where she has gone on to represent the school in the various disciplines of modern penthalon.
