KIERAN Roberts netted four goals on Monday as Looe Towns youngsters eased past Torpoint Athletic in their first pre-season encounter. Having shuffled some personnel within the squad, it gave the hosts an opportunity to try a different formation and, on the whole, the squad reacted with great enthusiasm.

Both teams agreed to play the match in three thirds to try different combinations. The first part was an even contest, with both sides settling back into 11-a-side football. Roberts opened the scoring for Looe with a

well-placed shot but, with seconds to go, Torpoint fought back and equalised.

The second period saw a much more confident performance by Town, who used the space on the wings to good advantage.

Will Whiting bagged two headed goals following corners from Dan Hinks and Roberts, before Harry Gilbert smashed home a well-placed left-footed strike from distance.

Strong tackles from Tim Ryan and Jacob Olver kept Looe in control of the midfield, and just before the whistle Roberts scored his second to put them in a commanding position.
