South West Water has announced where contractors will initially be working this spring - when they move into Liskeard and St Cleer to replace old water mains.
The works, to be undertaken by contractors T J Brent Limited, will take place between early next month and September.
SWW spokesman, Paul Breakwell, said that work will start in early April, on the rolling programme, in Liskeard's Barras Street, Greenbank Road, Church Street North, Castle Street and Bodgara Way and Killigrew Road on the Lake Lane estate.
The company says the Liskeard area is served by water mains that can be anything up to l00 years old, and are now showing the effects of long service through low pressure and, occasionally, discoloured water.
Householders affected by the works will be told in a letter of likely breaks in their water supply at least 24 hours in advance of any interruptions occurring. Rehabilitation engineer West, Alun Thomas, said: 'While work is carried out on individual sections of the water main, the water supply will have to be shut down for approximately 12 hours. I apologise for this, but our work cannot be completed without this interruption. An alternative supply, by means of mobile water tanks, will be provided during this period.'
