A MUSEUM which was severely damaged by a fire has open its doors again after more than a year of restoration work. After 13 months of hard work, Callington Heritage Centre has risen from the flames of a fire which caused an estimated £100,000 worth of damage in March last year. Steve Brown, divisional commander for Cornwall fire service, was guest of honour at the reopening to honour the efforts of more than 30 fire fighters who helped save around 95 per cent of the museum's artifacts during the blaze. Lynda Small, chairman of the heritage centre, thanked all the people who had donated money and time to help the restoration project and said: 'Without the fire service Callington would not have a heritage left and, as a special tribute to them, the first exhibition is all about fire in Callington and the fire brigade.' The centre and the new exhibition can now be viewed by members on the public every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays from 10am to 4pm.
