A LISKEARD businessman will appear on the BBC's Litter Wars TV programme next week as part of his campaign to rid the town of dog mess.
Rik Jones first decided to take action last spring when the fouling in his area got too much for him.
'I use the Charter Way path every evening – I've got two dogs myself. Last year it got really bad, so I put up a whole load of posters from Cornwall Council, but there was no improvement after that – in fact it got worse.'
Undeterred, Rik began taking his camera out with him, having been told that the council could prosecute if evidence was provided. During the course of his campaign, former chair of Liskeard Chamber of Commerce Rik got a call from Landmark Films, who were making a documentary about people up and down the country waging war on litter etc.
While Rik's initial outings with the TV cameras only succeeded in capturing responsible dog owners, some covert filming caught one owner who has been issued with a fine.
Litter Wars airs on BBC1 on Tuesday, February 19, at 10.35pm.
