Raleigh Sea Angling Club, a civilian fishing club that shares its name with the local naval establishment, held their annual flounder (fur and feather) competition on Sunday. With permission from the captain of HMS Raleigh, 16 club members fished the mud flats on St John Lake, within the naval establishment. A fine, but cold day saw nearly 20 fish brought to the scales, with the winning flounder coming in at 2-lb 1-oz 8-drm. The winner, John Riggall also caught one weighing 1-lb 14-oz 8-drm, while Mark Kitching was second with a fish of 2-1-0 and Colin Crowther third with a specimen of 2-0-8.
