Residents with volunteering enthusiasm in spades are helping to make their neighbourhood welcoming and attractive.

When Wendy and John Dowse moved to Liskeard last year, they fell in love with their new house in Henfordh Grange, but noticed that the two beds of shrubs on the entrance to the road were overgrown and in need of attention.

On contacting Cornwall Council contractor Cormac, Wendy was asked if she would become a volunteer for the company and take responsibility for the upkeep of those two beds.

Once the paperwork was completed, she became the ‘supervisor’ for a team of volunteers.

Wendy and John were soon joined by Sue and Peter Morton who had moved to the area in the summer of last year.

As residents of the Henfordh Grange group of roads have seen work being done to improve the beds, they in turn have offered plants to make the entrance to the road look tidy and well cared for.

The first bed is planted with flowering plants and shrubs and the team now aims to start on the second bed.

Any further offers of help can be made to Wendy at 3 Henfordh Grange.
