PLANS to extend and alter a residential care home were set to get the go-ahead from Caradon planners last night. Wooodlands at Well Park Road, Drakewalls, was due to be given approval with three conditions by Caradon's planning control committee east. The plans include a large two-storey extension to the building to provide six en-suite bedrooms and a living/ dining area with a number of windows and rooflights on the south east and north west elevations. The extenion would match the original building in terms of detail and general design and would be located in the home's large garden. There were 14 responses from neighbours all either objected or expressing concern on the enlargement. Many of the responses thought the windows would invade the privacy of nearby houses. There was also concern over the amount of on-street parking the extension could create. Members of Calstock Parish Council also objected, saying the proposed building would 'turn a small residential unit into a substantial building.' Plannners said the proposed development is acceptable in terms of its impact on the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). In response to parking concerns, planners said: 'The proposal has adequate off-street parking and it is considered that the extension would not create an overflow onto Well Park Road.' Construction of the extension needs to start within five years and a scheme for soundproofing the extension needs to be agreed by the council before this may start.
