Energy entrepreneurs in Cornwall completed 27 new independent renewable projects last year, adding 25.9MW of clean generation and keeping it as a UK leader for clean generation, according to an energy company report.

SmartestEnergy’s fifth annual Energy Entrepreneurs Report concludes that Cornwall has the second highest number of independent renewable projects, with 320 projects with a capacity of 462.9MW.

They generate enough energy to power more than 170,000 homes and save more than 262,000 tonnes of CO2 a year.

However, growth in UK independent renewable projects has flatlined in the wake of subsidy cuts, claims the report.
