CHURCHES at St Cleer and Torpoint took part in an event held across the UK which was a record-breaking attempt to involve more than 15,000 people singing the same five carols at the same time.
It is hoped the carollers will be included in the next Guinness Book of Records. Organised by 'Biblelands' in association with Premier Christian Radio, everyone burst into song at 7pm and continuously sang the carols which had to be filmed to prove the singing took place.
At St Cleer Parish Church, the record attempt was entered into as part of the annual candlelit service and lessons called With Choirs of Angels. More than 140 parishioners took part and the singing was accompanied by St Cleer's own Little Village Orchestra. The special service ended with festive spiced punch served at the back of the church.
More than 70 in the congregation at St James Church, Torpoint, also took part in the record-breaking attempt, during a traditional carol service led by Rev Lynn Parker.
The service began with 11-year-old Liam singing a solo of the first verse of Once In Royal David's City.
