A rare award will be presented to four Torpoint people by the Bishop of Truro on Sunday.

The four have each gained Gold Challenge awards in a scheme run by the Church of England.

Veronica Bright, Jill Warren, Vivienne Morris and Barbara Jones have successfully completed a two-year course designed to present them with challenges and build up their Christian faith.

As part of the scheme, Veronica created a photo montage of a year in the life of Maryfield Church while Jill put on a tea with entertainment for more than 40 senior citizens from Torpoint on Millennium Eve.

Vivienne organised a fashion show to fulfil one of her challenges while Barbara helped at the nursery unit of Torpoint Infants School in Albion Road. Barbara has subsequently stayed on at the unit to help.

The Vicar of Torpoint, the Rev James Warren, who led the course said: "Gold Challenge badges are rare. They are usually only awarded by the bishop."
