Rika Chanter, one of the volunteers at the Saltash Foodbank, undertook a sponsored zipwire challenge at Adrenalin Quarry, Menheniot, earlier this year and raised £437 for food bank funds.
She was congratulated by Saltash mayor Hilary Frank and her husband Shojiro when they recently visited the food bank coffee morning held at the town’s Wesley Church.
Mark Hawker, chairman of the food bank, welcomed the visitors and the coffee morning raised £176.65p.
The Saltash Food bank had 271 people using it between April and August last year and this year the number has risen to 308, the main cause for people seeking help being cited as due to delays in them receiving their benefits.
Food contributions still needed are mainly tinned meat, biscuits and jellies and the bank is at 18 BelleVue Road, at the back of the premises. It is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 2pm to 4pm.
