THE ongoing repairs throughout Britain's railway system have brought a boost to Saltash company, Anzio Ltd, which is a specialist recruitment agency.
Anzio Ltd, based on Carkeel's Tamar View Industrial Estate, is one of the three largest recruitment agencies for maintenance work in the region. It has provided over 80 temporary staff, supervisors and site managers to major contractors such as Dean and Dyball and Amey Rail. These staff are hired to undertake routine maintenance work and regeneration tasks - which have been stepped up in the last six months or so.
Managing director of Anzio, Andy Collier, said for the past two months they have been supplying staff to help repair damage caused by cliff sides at Dawlish, and for emergency callout teams.
Mr Collier, 34, is a former soldier. The firm is named after his old Army platoon. He began four years ago in his dining room, with monetary backing from the Prince's Trust, and an overdraft facility of only £100 matched by the bank. This financial year the company looks as if it might achieve a record turnover of £800,000.
