Rugby teams and fans from across the UK are taking part in a leading sevens tournament this weekend.

Seventy teams, comprising 1,200 men and women, are set to battle out the Newquay Rugby 7s, and a further 1,000 spectators are expected.

At stake is a place in the regional play-offs in Exeter on July 10.

Sponsor Sharp’s Brewery’s rugby ambassador, and Cornish legend Phil Vickery, nicknamed Raging Bull, was today due to welcome teams from across the UK, including last year’s winning Men’s British Army team, and the Women winning team, the South Wales Dragons.

Phil will also be laying down the gauntlet with a special RFU passing machine challenge with a rugby prize on offer.

Newquay Sports Centre is serving up food and beer over the two-day tournament.
