THERE was an exciting surprise waiting for some of the pupils at Looe Primary on their first day back after the summer break this week. They were told that their participation in the National Schools Meal Week, held in April had won them the South West's top regional prize.

As their reward they are being whisked off to an adventurous day out in London next Tuesday, which includes a visit to The Dome and a trip up the River Thames taking in the London Eye. They will be leaving by coach at 5am in the morning.

Initial Catering Services who supply school meals all over the Caradon area have been the first to offer the school their congratulations. District Manager Mrs Linda Hosken (St Cleer), said she is absolutely delighted at the children's outstanding success. 'The work of the pupils involved and their teachers was excellent' she said, 'and they well deserve to be number one in the region. I hope they all have a wonderful day out'.

During the National Schools Meal Week the pupils had prepared different dishes each day to promote health in different parts of the body, accompanied by appropriate fancy dress, paintings and collages to encourage other children at the school to eat healthily.
