PUPILS at a South East Cornwall school have been busy finding ways to raise almost £1000 already, ahead of tomorrow’s Red Nose Day for Comic Relief.

From Jasmine and Rosie who are turning ocean waste into beautiful bracelets in exchange for a donation, to Brodie’s 12-hour sponsored silence, Fourlanesend Community Primary School on the Rame Peninsula is going above and beyond to raise money for Red Nose Day and for those who need it most.

A sponsored surf by Archie as well as bike rides, joke fests, beach clean ups and sponsored walks are among the activities the young people have thought up to raise cash.

Children at Fourlanesend Community Primary School have long been big supporters of Comic Relief, but they are also strong advocates for the environment and a reduction in plastic pollution.

Fourlanesend pupils were the first?of many?to?voice their concerns in a letter sent to Comic Relief directly about the plastic material of the Red Noses back in 2019.? Comic Relief had already been looking at alternatives to the plastic, but hearing from the children spurred the charity to work much faster. In October 2020, the pupils of Fourlanesend Community Primary School helped Comic Relief launch their 100% plastic-free Red Noses in a special virtual event where the students grilled Richard Curtis, Liz Bonnin and Comic Relief on the new Nose.

A spokesperson for Comin Relief said: “Throughout the pandemic the country has seen heart-warming moments of kindness and community strength shine through even the hardest of times and it’s incredibly inspiring to see the children find new and creative ways to raise money for Red Nose Day, especially during lockdown.

“We’re also encouraging the public to tune in to Comic Relief 2021 on BBC One, from 7pm on Friday 19th March to see the pupils receive a special surprise for their incredible support of Red Nose Day.”

Red Nose Day is back tomorrow (Friday March 19) and will aim to bring the UK together? - although we may be apart - ?to show just how powerful humour can be through the toughest of times?

The money raised by Red Nose Day will support people in the UK and around the world, and help tackle hunger, homelessness, domestic abuse and mental health stigma.
