A PUBLIC meeting to discuss the future of the former Passmore Edwards Hospital in Liskeard was due to take place last night. The meeting was organised by Roger Jones and Bruce Hawken and acted as a think-tank for local people to share their ideas on the future of the site. Opinions are divided on whether to demolish the former hospital building or find a new use for it after the North and East Cornwall Primary Care Trust submitted an application to Caradon District Council for outline permission to demolish the building and redevelop it for residential purposes. Speaking before the meeting, Mr Jones said: 'We just want to see what can be done about the proposals. 'A lot of residents living around Passmore Edwards are worried about flats being built or the building being demolished. 'We just want to see if anything can be done and if anyone has ideas, and it would be interesting to see what does come out of the meeting.' At last month's town council meeting councillors voted in majority to recommend that Caradon refuses the North and East Cornwall Primary Care Trust's plans to demolish the site.
