A CASH injection of almost £50,000 has been given to help preserve the heritage of a town. Callington has received a total of £49,900 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to go towards both work on the town museum and the creation of heritage trails within the town. The bid was secured through work between Callington Town Council and the museum trustees. Anne Eade, from the museum, said: 'We are very glad the town council has taken such an interest in the place and are grateful for their interest in the heritage of the town.' Most of the cash will be spent on the museum building, which was once a chapel. The entire building needs to be repaired due to damp and some of the stone work is in a dangerous condition. Museum displays will be given a complete revamp and the porch area will be enclosed with doors to increase the display area. Access for disabled visitors will also become easier. The cataloguing of everything in museum will be completed and this may be available on a countrywide database. A number of publications are also planned with one on a heritage trails and two on heritage walks.
