£500 reward after 17 ton lorry theft

Thieves stole a 17 ton lorry from the premises of a Liskeard plant hire firm this week - and dumped it a day later in Callington.

But what is puzzling the owners is where the lorry went between the time it was stolen and time it was recovered.

And what has happened to one of the mini-diggers it was carrying.

Caradon Tool and Plant Hire at the Miller Business Park, Liskeard have offered a £500 reward for information leading to the thieves.

The lorry was stolen between 8pm on Tuesday and 7am the following morning. With it went a dumpster and two mini digging machines. When the lorry was recovered outside Ginsters in Callington one diggers was missing and the lorry had a damaged water pipe.

The puzzle is that there was 37 kilometres on the clock - far more than the distance between Liskeard and Callington.

Plant owner Alan Bolitho said that getting the digger off the lorry would have needed the use of the crane, which is quite noisy.

Anyone who has information should call Mr Bolitho on 01579 343796 or Liskeard police on 0990 777444.
