St Dominic Parish Council has been handed a cheque for £10,000 from Tesco’s Bags of Help new sponsorship scheme for local green projects. The money comes from the Government’s 5p carrier bag levy, and will help to create a network of heritage trails alongside the River Tamar. Speaking for the parish council Carolyn Wilkins said: ‘The St Dominick Heritage Trails will link with the Cotehele estate and the historic hamlets of Ashton, Halton Quay and Bohetherick. We will work with the National Trust, Ramblers Associations and Tamar Valley AONB to ‘waymark’ paths, and there will be new information boards and walks guides. It will bring more visitors to the area to support local business and provide learning opportunities to explore our history.’ The project is one of the first beneficiaries of the new Tesco sponsorship scheme. The supermarket chain is offering grants of up to £12,000 to local groups to improve green spaces, with the projects being nominated and voted on by the public.

Bags of Help grants are awarded twice a year, and applications are now being accepted for the second round of funding. To find out more go to www. tesco.com/carrier-bags
