A 15-year-old student has raised more than £1,000 for Cancer Research UK by having her head shaved. Molly Montgomery, a student at Torpoint Community College, lost her teacher, Mr Feast, with a brain tumour recently. She has also found out that her godmother, Sarah, a friend of her mum and god-daughter of South East Cornwall MP Sheryll Murray, has been diagnosed with cancer. On her fundraising page before the event, held outside Sainsbury's in Torpoint on Saturday, Molly said: 'I'm shaving all my hair off for cancer research as cancer is something I feel deep about and I know people who have suffered and lost their battle to cancer.' Her long locks are being donated to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for children. Proud Molly's parents Paul and Lorraine Montgomery said they are very proud of their daughter. 'Not many girls of her age would consider having all their hair shaved off,' said Lorraine. She is a very determined young lady, and there was no stopping her once she had made her mind up.' The family also sold raffle tickets at the head shave for the prizes which had been donated by Torpoint businesses. Mrs Murray, who attended the fundraiser, said: 'Molly is such a brave girl and she has done fantastically well raising so much money for cancer research. 'I would really like to thank her for her efforts and for all the people who have given so generously. I would also like to thank Sainsbury's for giving use of their store to such a worthy cause.'
