Protesters from St Ann's Chapel have handed a petition to Cornwall Council against plans to build more than 150 homes on the outskirts of their village.

Residents are angry over plans to build a large housing estate off the A390 between the south of Highfield and south of West Prince Farm.

If the homes are built it could mean 600 extra people living in the village, which has a current population of around 1,200 people.

Many fear it could put a strain on the surrounding roads and say there are too few amenities to cater for the extra people.

Plans were approved by the former Caradon District Council in March, subject to a review by the Government's regional office for the South West.

Developer Richard Pillar will be building the homes if they are approved and says £135,000 will be given for improvements in the village, with £10,000 set aside for Metherell village hall.

A total of 22 of the homes built will have to be affordable homes.

Nobody from the council was able to get permission to be photographed receiving the petition on Thursday, April 9.
