CARADON District Council has delayed its decision on whether to accept a proposal for 25 affordable homes to be built near Callington. At a planning meeting last week, councillors said that a site visit was needed in order to come to a decision on the homes which, if approved, will be built in a cul-de-sac at South Hill Road, Kelly Bray. The plans have been attacked by Callington Town Council, who think the application should be refused because the houses would be outside the development boundary and would have no services immediately adjacent to them. Councillors also felt that the development would increase traffic problems at a difficult A388 junction. 'The proposal is completely out of character with adjacent dwellings and the environment,' stated members of Callington Town Council in their recommendations to Caradon. 'It is putting a housing estate in a green environment.' However, the affordable housing officer claimed that there is a need for the homes. In September 2007, 284 households were listed on the housing register expressing an interest to live in Callington The site visit is expected to take place on December 17.
