A project officer has been appointed following the announcement that the Tamar Valley has received £2.9 million in funding for a regeneration project.

The new officer, appointed by the county council, is Steve Burge of Gunnislake, who will supervise the implementation of the range of schemes from the Calstock Development Trust, the Gunnislake Forum and the Callington 2000 Group.

Several schemes are planned for the area, including improvements to the waterfront at Calstock and the central sector of Gunnislake with particular attention to Commercial Street and Fore Street. At Callington the Town Square, the Pannier Market and Fore Street will receive attention and some work could be set in train this winter.

Work will also be carried out to stabilise mine sites at Clitters and Okeltor with the accent on conservation of the archaeological heritage.

Regular progress will be outlined to residents with a phone contact available through 01872 322668.
