Argyle boss Bobby Williamson knows only to well the importance of the next four games, three of which are at home. The Greens have just one victory in the last seven matches and Saturday's defeat at Leicester City, showed the frailty of an Argyle team that finds it difficult to hang on to a lead after scoring first. Yet their three defeats in those seven games have all been by a single goal margin. Williamson surprised everyone at Leicester by keeping the same team and system that forced a 0-0 draw against Stoke City. Once again the relegation to the bench of ball players Keith Lasley and Lee Makel left Argyle without the midfield guile and expertise needed to unlock defences in this difficult league. Having a player sat in front of the back four tends to unbalance Argyle as a team, as it leaves a three-man midfield of David Norris, David Friio and Tony Capaldi having to work rather than create. The thing no-one can criticise Argyle for is their commitment. But having to keep chasing, week after week, to either hang on to a lead, or to fight for an equaliser, must take its toll. And with Williamson down to just three fit recognised strikers in Mickey Evans, Stevie Crawford and Marino Keith Argyle's chances of extricating themselves from their poor run could be further exacerbated if any of them picks up an injury. What clearly frustrate fans is that Argyle are so close to being a good side. Their support of the players at Home Park is magnificent, and any team that can regularly call on at least 2-3,000 fans to support them at an away match must have a chance of producing the results. It's a long time since Argyle have played at such a high level, where all teams are capable of geting a result against any of the others in the division on the day. Tomorrow's game against Burnley and the following week's visit to Crewe Alexandra almost become must win games, followed as they are by tough home matches against Derby County and Queens Park Rangers, followed by visits to Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers, before league leaders Ipswich come to town. The last four already hold victories over Argyle this term, making the return fixtures daunting to say the least, especially as Argyle have picked up just three wins in their last 15 games. It could be that the manager's patience is running thin, evidenced by his remark that there was a lot of talking in the dressing room but nobody seems to be listening. Williamson has been quick to quash rumours that Mathias K Doumbe could be on his way to Everton when the Premiership transfer window opens in January. The Frenchman has been in superlative form of late and his departure would be a major loss for the Pilgrims, who do not have many players with his pace and guile. Doumbe should be available for the visit of Burnley, after having 24 stitches inserted in an horrendous head wound suffered at Leicester. Burnley are one of those teams who draw a lot, but it's their impressive away record of three wins, five draws and only two defeats that catches the eye, along with conceding just six goals in those 10 matches. In fact their last three games have been won without a goal being conceded. Star player is undoubtedly 28-year-old, 11-goal striker Robbie Blake, with Burnley reputed to have turned down a £500,000 offer from Wigan Athletic this week, just two weeks after turning down another big offer from Nottingham Forest. Blake cost the Clarets £1m when they bought the 100-plus goalscorer from Bradford and will want a lot more than Wigan offered. Another big summer signing was of the former Chelsea and Jamaican international central defender Frank Sinclair. Blake will have alongside him another £1m player in Ian Moore, who was bought from Stockport County. Blake and Moore both have lightning pace and could pose the Argyle defence a problem a problem of two. Saltash teenager Brinton Nute has joined his home town club Saltash United. The 18 year old has joined the Western League club on work experience. Goalkeeper Kenny Schofield, has linked up with former Argyle favourite and ex-manager Kevin Hodges at Southern League Clevedon Town in a similar capacity. Argyle have cancelled the apprentice contract of Daniel Rose, who has been unable to settle away from his family. Ryan Dickson gave an impressive performance for the reserves in a 4-3 win at Yeovil Town reserves, scoring twice. Blair Sturrock scored the other two in a match that saw Hasney Aljofree have a 70 minute run out. The club's U16s continued their good season when goals from Lee Smythe, Dan Gosling and a Toby Davis double earned them a 4-0 victory against Cheltenham Town. Argyle's youth team entertain Darlington in the third round of the FA Youth Cup on December 14 with a 7pm kick off. Argyle Ladies go into Sunday's Womens FA Cup third round tie at Cardiff City Bluebirds on the back of a 1-0 win against Exeter City in the Devon Women's Cup.
