A RECOMMENDATION to hold the precept at the same rate as 2020-21 for the coming financial year has been agreed by Liskeard Town Council.
The decision means that the Town Council’s part of the annual Council Tax payment will stay the same for residents, and will equate to £141.08 for a Band D property. Liskeard Town Council will have a budget for the 2021-22 year of £510,181, of which £455,738 comes from the precept.
Commenting on the Council’s financial planning, Councillor Julian Smith said it was “an appropriate budget for the times” and that every committee had pared down.
Mayor Rachel Brooks said that the aim had been not to raise the precept so as not to put a burden onto residents, but that that had meant deferring some projects.
“Essentially, we looked at what we could delay which would have the least impact on the public,” said Cllr Brooks.
Repairs and redecoration of the Guildhall, and further refurbishment in the Public Hall to provide another small meeting room for hire, have been delayed.
However, work to create a new public footpath linking Eastern Avenue with Springfield Road will go ahead as planned.
