Lux Park Leisure Centre staff have been praised for their quick reactions and valiant efforts to resuscitate a man who collapsed during a bowls match on Monday.

Sadly the man, a Mr Vanstone from Launceston, died later. He is believed to have suffered a heart attack.

Among those praising the staff is fellow bowls player Mr Berry from Callington.

He said: 'The staff dealt with the situation extremely well and managed to get Mr Vanstones' heart beating again and again during the 25 minute wait for the ambulance. Despite everyone's best efforts we heard that he had died shortly afterwards.'

Richard Tuxford, contracts manager at Lux Park said: 'The staff are trained in emergency first aid and this paid off as the staff worked extremely well as a team, with the other staff directing customers and waiting for the ambulance to arrive.

' Great credit must be given to the staff and the manner in which they dealt with the situation. Our thoughts are with Mrs Vanstone and the family at this time.'
