MEETINGS on the draft Callington town plan have come up with some interesting suggestions on the town's future. At the first meeting, which concentrated on the town centre and traffic and road safety, it was agreed that the padestrianisation of most of Fore Street and making Church Street one-way was a solution to many of the problems. Cllr Andrew Long said: 'We have to go for complete regeneration of the town centre and the funding to go with it. 'We might not succeed, but at least we will have tried.' It was agreed at the meeting on emergency services, health, and law and order that there would be great benefit in the town's health centre and the town council working together to buy land allowing the health centre to expand before the population increased any further. Portreeve, Cllr Jeremy Gist, said: 'It is vital to get the infrastructure in place before more houses are built.' A meeting on leisure, education and youth took place last night (January 20) and tourism and the town council will be discussed, next Thursday January 27. It is hoped that everyone involved in tourism and information will come along to make positive suggestions. The environment and environment services will be tackled on February 3 and housing and employment on February 10. All proposals will go into a draft town plan which will be available on the town's website. Members of the public will again be invited to comment before the town is finalised.
