FOR the Royal British Legion (RBL), the Poppy Appeal is not just for November – it is a campaign run all year round.

The Torpoint branch has thanked its supporters in the town for helping to keep the campaign at the forefront of people’s minds.

Schools, businesses and individuals were among those to receive presentations at a thank-you ceremony staged by the town’s RBL.

The event marked the halfway point of this year’s Poppy Appeal, which will run until the end of September.

Torpoint and Rame organiser John Tivnan said: ‘The Poppy Appeal has a major emphasis around the two weeks leading up to Remembrance Sunday in November.

‘However, the fund-raising continues throughout the year.

‘With the support of individuals and organisations, we can do our little bit in ensuring that the needs of service personnel, ex-service personnel and their families are met whenever that need arises. ‘Torpoint, with its strong service connections, has over the years been extremely generous and supportive and by holding events such as this the Royal British Legion, in turn, can say thank you.’
