Division One - How the mighty have fallen! Records tumbled and the Dales were humbled as Pelynt B came back from the brink to record a famous victory. At 2-0 down (Jason Bond, Martyn Holtam) with the top two in the 'most wins' ladder still to come, even the most optimistic Pelynt supporters were surely resigned to defeat. However, gloom turned to hope as Steve Eastley dealt with Peter Ivey and Dave Ede saw off John Storer, hope becoming elation as Marcus Le Page surrendered his unbeaten record and the Ship Inn Dales 100% record in a final frame shoot-out with Pelynt hero Phil Hearndon.
The Legion A have got a bit of a run going and they continued it at the expense of the Pirates as Kevin Hinton, Brian Phillips and Ron Hutley led them to a 3-2 victory. Bert Stephens and Jason Toms replied.
The Russell had their best result of the season as J Plummer, Ray Hemley, Adam Ingleson and Ray Tomlin hit 4 against the Drifters. Dave Merrifield scored the consolation.
Marquee B won their relegation battle at Henries 3-2, via Antony Lewis, John Kelly and Roy Saxby, with Ryan Tedder and Birdy replying.
Marquee A traded games to 2-2 with Henries D before Paul Adams secured the win for Henries. Stuart Fisher and Karl Bowden also won and the Julian brothers were on the money for Marquee. A late card from 13th February saw the Marquee go one better in their Derby match against Marquee B, winning 3-2 via Richard Lewis, Steven Lewis and Steven Ryan, with Alan Ruby and Anthony Lewis scoring for the B's.
Results: Henries A 2-3 Marquee B (5-6); Marquee A 2-3 Henries D (4-6); Pelynt B 3-2 Ship Inn Dales (6-6); Pirates 2-3 Legion A (6-6); Russell 4-1 Drifters (8-2); late result from 13/2 ñ Marquee B 2-3 Marquee A (6-7).
Division Two - Trotters at the Gallop
The Globe Trotters belied their league position with an excellent 5-0 victory at Bar 1 A, which lifted them off the bottom for the first time since Christmas. Tom Bee, Jackie Twiner, Rob Bennett, John Wilson and Miles Kirton did the damage.
The Ship Bombarders also joined the 'five alive' club as they took all the points against their Polperro namesakes, thanks to Clive and Brett Pearn, Barry Holloway, Richard Rix and Matt Edwards.
Jolly A moved from second place into a massive six point lead as they too hit 'high five' at Henries E. Murray Collings, Keith Machin, Dave Williams, James Griffiths and Darren Griffiths (8-baller) were on target. This was in addition to a late result from 13 February when they beat Bar 1 A 4-1 through Ed Russell, Murray Collings, Dave Williams and Darren Griffiths, who had an 8-baller on that occasion also. Charlie Lepoidevin replied for Bar 1.
Previous leaders Noughts A lost ground with a 3-2 defeat at the Lugger, for whom Martin Adams, Ian Liston and Rob Wilson clinched the points. Ryan Leslie and Mark Lewis replied in a match where every game went to the deciding frame.
The Boscarn B had to work for their victory at the Bullers, with Billy Roberts taking the final frame to make the score 3-2. Brian Bowdler and Richard Kitt were also successful, with Bob Stuckey and Cris Woods hitting back for the Bullers.
Results: Bar 1 A 0-5 Globe Trotters (3-10); Bullers 2-3 Boscarn B (6-7); Henries E 0-5 Jolly A (3-10); Lugger 3-2 Noughts A (8-7); Bombarders 5-0 Ship Polperro B (10-3); late result from 6/2 ñ Bar 1 A 1-4 Jolly A (5-8).
Eight Ballers - Darren Griffiths (Jolly A) v Mark Bettinson (Henries E), late result from 6/2 - Darren Griffiths (Jolly A) v Dan Fern (Bar 1 A).
Division Three - Young guns roll on
The youngsters of Boscarn C closed to within a point of long time leaders Strugglers B with a 4-1 victory over Bar 1 B, for whom Darren Reynolds was the only winner. Piran Clements, Darren Evans, Marcus Wills and Chris Gowing did the biz for the C's.
The Strugglers won (but only just) after David Salter and Bob Woodman had given Boscarn E a 2-0 lead. Gary Hardings, Doug Jones and Mike Lambie completed the comeback.
The Jolly B move into third spot because a 'lost' result against Boscarn E from 28 November was confirmed as 5-0 (player details not available), but otherwise it was a disastrous week for them as they lost 4-1 at home to Henries C, with only star man Steve Pote winning. Roy Dallimore, Paula Hamlet, Sue Allman and N Mottershad scored for Henries.
A Bar 1 B victory over the Social A - another 'lost' result from the same week - is also incorporated in this week's table but again player details are not available.
The Social A fought back from a 2-1 deficit to beat Pelynt A 3-2 courtesy of Steve Spree, James Bull and Chris Powell, with Simon Emery and Chris Gascoyne replying for Pelynt.
Every time I build someone up in my reports they set out to prove me wrong. After the nice things I said about the Rowett lads last week I suppose it was inevitable that they would get well stuffed - and they did - losing 4-1 at home to the Marquee D. Francis Tucker, Neil Hilton, Kevin Small and Michael Spencer were the Marquee winners, with Jon Puckey taking the Rowett point.
Results: Boscarn C 4-1 Bar 1 B (9-4); Jolly B 1-4 Henries C (4-8); Rowett 1-4 Marquee D (4-8); Social A 3-2 Pelynt A (8-6); Strugglers B 3-2 Boscarn E (8-5); lost cards from 28/11 - Bar 1 B 3-2 Social (7-6) - frame score unconfirmed, individual players results unavailable; Jolly B 5-0 Boscarn E (10-2) - individual players results unavailable.
Division Four - Strugglers on the move
The arrival of a late card and the absence of a result from the Foreigners combined to move the Strugglers within five points of the lead. A close match against Copley contributed 3 points to their tally although they were 2-1 down at one stage and only clinched the win in the final frame of the final game. Brian Cull, Billy Hayter and Phil Clark earned the victory and Geoff Rogers and George Burton registered for Copley.
The Strugglers scheduled match was against the Destroyers and provided another four points, courtesy of Ben and Ian Jones, Dan Pengelly and Phil Clark. Andy Grant scored for Destroyers.
The Noughts B were given a 3-0 start by Colin Smith, Chris Sandom and Paul Hoskin, but were unable to add to that as Michael Eldridge and Matt Thompson fought back for Millendreath.
The Islanders sealed their third win of the campaign as they beat the Copley 3-2 thanks to Harry Fawcett, Steve Ayres and Martin Whitehouse. Dave Spencer and Guy Berncastle replied for Copley.
Results: Destroyers 1-4 Strugglers A (4-8); Islanders 3-2 Copley (6-6); Noughts B 3-2 Millendreath B (7-6); late result from 13/2 - Strugglers A 3-2 Copley (8-7).
