A special dinner was held by Polruan RNLI committee members, at which presentations were made to members Jean Hill and Geoffrey Loring for their long history of service to the RNLI.

For nearly 20 years, Jean Hill together with her husband John (whose ill-health prevented him from attending the dinner) have opened their garden at Headland, Polruan, to the public over the summer months.

During this period they raised over £22,000 for the RNLI alone. Their fundraising total for last year was £4, 851 - the RNLI benefiting by £2,407 and the remainder being shared between St Wyllow Church, the Children's Hospice, the National Gardens Scheme, Polruan Village Hall and the Porthpyra Singers.

The couple's remarkable achievement was marked by an award in the shape of a commemorative RNLI engraved crest, mounted on a shield, presented to Jean Hill by RNLI southwest regional manager Andrew Young.

Geoffrey Loring of Pont is a long-standing member of the Polruan branch committee. In recognition of his many years of service to the RNLI he was presented with a framed Certificate of Thanks.

Twenty people, including spouses, attended the dinner at which Andrew Young took the opportunity of bringing those present up to date with RNLI developments.
