Dr Jan Macfarlane, health and social care spokesperson for South-East Cornwall Constituency Labour Party, said: ‘The opportunity to shine a spotlight on the plight of the NHS in Cornwall could not be more timely.
‘Our health services in Cornwall have been found wanting mainly because of their failure to keep within the budget set by the government - and that budget has been seriously inadequate.
‘Cornwall is one of 14 areas subject to the Capped Expenditure Process by which senior NHS managers have been told to “think the unthinkable” - including the closure of community hospitals, staff cuts, rationing of services and the sell-off of NHS property.
‘The threats to the NHS and social care are real and immediate. Staff are underpaid, undervalued and demoralised. Now with three marginal parliamentary seats in Cornwall, it is time for the voices of those calling to Save the NHS to be heard.’
